Over the past few decades of Copp Racing, we have witnessed many horrendous accidents; rollovers, fires, loose wheels, and many more on and off the track. The safety of our racers is important to track officials and family members. In the 2018 season, Kyle Copp had his first rollover in the #26 pure stock. A heart stopping moment for his family and friends, Copp took a tumble but fortunately he was okay because of the gear and other safety precautions he had taken before the race.
In the updated 2018 WISSOTA Auto Racing Rules and Procedures, there are specified safety precautions that must be taken in order to qualify or result in a finish for the night. Some of the specifics include the type of helmet, driving suit, and car features to ensure safety throughout each race. While a full face shield isn’t required, it is strongly recommended, which both Copp boys have securely chosen. In the beginning of “Copp Bros. Racing,” a fire-retardant seat was also not quite yet required, however in recent years, a driving suit and gloves of fire-retardant nature is absolutely mandatory.
The main purpose of a race suit is to protect the racers in the chance of a fire within their car. It is designed to cover the entire body, with the use of gloves, as well, and consist of one or more fire-retardant materials. Another nifty feature of most of the newer race suits is a handle like feature on the shoulders to lift the racer in case of emergency. The second main purpose of a race suit is to identify a driver outside of their car. Suits can be made to custom order, which is exactly what Brandon did for the 2018 season after wearing legend, Don Copp’s, 1998 black and orange race suit. To purchase a customized race suit like his, visit http://www.jdisignsandgraphics.com/jdi-custom-race-wear.html or contact Andy Jones at 763-228-6491.
Another great place to visit for race suits with the option of customizable embroidery sis https://simpsonraceproducts.com , featured here are the HANS Device which is a head and neck restraint highly recommended in stock car racing. Accidents can happen in a matter of seconds, with safety as our number one priority, the cost of these safety devices is worth it.
Now back to identification. If you've ever walked through the pits of our local tracks, one of the first things you may notice of Team #22, in particular, is the big bushy beard of B. Copp. Secondly, from Team #26, you may notice the bright orange suit of K. Copp. Lastly, the newest addition of race wear, the black and blue Bud Light and HANCO Utilities sponsored fire-retardant race suit.

Follow these 3 tips for style and safety in your race season:
1. Customize a race suit with Andy Jones that matches your personality and your car.
2. Add sponsor stickers to your helmet.
3. Design a colorful window net that matches your car
